Marjolein Guldentops is a visual artist and performer who explores language as both material and structure, something we inhabit, shape and are shaped by. Her work explores the inherent ambiguity of language and its potential for change and reinterpretation. A fascination with urban rhythms, bodily movement and the relationship between people and their environment recurs throughout her practice. Working across a variety of media, concepts are transferred from one form to another, texts become performances that evolve into book publications, drawings or installations. Everyday elements such as administrative codes, office supplies and workwear are repurposed, their functions subverted to create new meanings. Through subjective distortions, Guldentops questions how systems categorise, remember and forget, exposing their inherent rigidity.
