Performance with Gilles Hellemans at Gula Gula Festival
A letter takes shape, it slowly fills our bellies. As we pronounce them, the emptiness in our stomachs tells us we are ready for more. Words temporarily fill the void. Twirling sentences and floating descriptions emerge and disappear just as quickly. Inhale, deflate, punctuate, and then melt away into our shared space of XXX’s and OOO’s.
Marjolein Guldentops and Gilles Hellemans bring together their artistic practices for the first time in this performative and scenographic installation on the Gula Gula festival grounds. Approached like an open-source tool for language, sound, and the human bodies producing them.
As a festival temporarily builds a scene for us to explore and navigate, Guldentops and Hellemans relay that narrative closer to home: our own voice, words, and letters.
